23.2.2023 - Symposium on the Due Diligence Law and the Application of Human Rights Standards to Supply Chains
The German government is emphasizing on the importance of adopting climate change actions in the German businesses through amending the supply chain law in 2021. The Supply Chain Law imposes significant obligations on companies that source their products and services through supply chains from developing and emerging countries and sell them in Germany to comply with environmental standards and exposes them to potentially serious liability in the event of violations. The new Supply Chain Act is entered into force in 2023 and is initially applied to companies with 3,000 or more employees, then from 2024 to companies with 1,000 or more employees with a registered office or branch in Germany.
In light of the above, The German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce in cooperation with the Federal Embassy of Germany in Cairo, the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and the Egyptian Commercial Service Office in Berlin have the honor to invite you to participate in the hybrid symposium that will be held on Thursday, February 23 2023, at 12:00 p.m. (twelve o'clock in the afternoon), at the German Chamber's headquarters in (21 Soliman Abaza Street, Mohandessin), on the eleventh floor or online through a link that will be provided later.
The focus of the symposium is the implementation of the German due diligence law (Supply Chain Law) and its application on human rights standards to supply chains and its effects on the Egyptian economy.
It’s worth mentioning that the European Union has prepared a law similar to the German Due Diligence law and it has been approved by the European Council and is expected to be implemented within 24 months once the European Parliament gives its final approval

There are many advantages to using renewable energy sources for businesses, such advances are marketing and image opportunities, reduction of emissions, lower energy costs, and many others. Corporations need to become leaders in making this change, since the amount of energy they use is undeniably more than energy used personally. Fact is that as easily reached fossil resources begin to run out, the cost of this type of energy will only increase with scarcity. At the same time as fossil fuels become more expensive, the cost of greener energy sources is falling. The interest, investment and development of green energy solutions is bringing costs down as we continue to build up our knowledge and are able to build on past breakthroughs. As a result, green energy can not only become economically viable but also the preferred option. Therefore, the Egyptian government has set targets for renewables to make up 42% of the country's electricity mix by 2035, based on rapid solar and wind deployment.
Within this context, The German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce is inviting you to attend its High-Profile AHK Exclusive Business Dinner “Egyptian German Green Energy Forum” on Tuesday, 22nd of March 2022, registration starts at 05:30 p.m.

Event Details:
- Date: Monday, 7th March 2022, From 10:00 am to 11:45 am
- Location: German Chamber’s premises
- Language: English
- Topic Covered:
Germany has been the global pioneer in applying renewable energy and environmental technologies. The energy transition continues to be an integral part of Germany’s energy landscape with ambitious goals to cut CO2 emissions and increase the share of renewable energy in total energy consumption. In June 2020, the Federal Government of Germany adopted a National Hydrogen Strategy (NWS) presented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (recently changed its name to Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action). In doing so, Germany has committed itself to the pivotal importance of green hydrogen to achieve its climate protection goals and mitigate climate change.
In addition to the above, the German government emphasized on the importance of adopting the climate change actions in the German businesses through amending the supply chain law in 2021. The Supply Chain Act imposes significant obligations on companies that source their products and services through supply chains from developing and emerging countries and sell them in Germany to comply with environmental standards and exposes them to potentially serious liability in the event of violations. The new Supply Chain Act will enter into force in 2023 and will initially apply to companies with 3,000 or more employees, then from 2024 to companies with 1,000 or more employees with a registered office or branch in Germany.
Currently, there is a high demand for hydrogen, where Germany is looking into entering new markets and therefore, considering Egypt to be its first. It is also worth mentioning that the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, more commonly referred to as COP27, will be the 27th United Nations Climate Change conference, held in Egypt, in November 2022.
Due to all of the above, the German Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce introduces a new function with effect in February 2022 focusing on climate change in Egypt. The main concept of the function is to have the German-Arab Chamber act as the main focal point for the topic climate change, keep its members and the German companies abreast with latest information about the climate change in Egypt and organize activities to support and shed light on the mentioned topic.

COVID-19’s dramatic impact on Egypt’s entire healthcare system compelled government and donor stakeholders to act.
